The Law Students Association Of Nigeria (LAWSAN) is the apex and national umbrella body for all undergraduate law students in Nigeria, with a membership composed of students of all the faculties of law in Nigerian tertiary institutions across the federation.

LAWSAN was birthed due to the need for law students in Nigeria to have a national platform that will uniformly amplify their voices on matters bordering on the promotion and protection of their welfare and on other issues of national importance.

OUR CORE OBJECTIVES

  • To represent the interests of Nigerian Law Students in all National and International matters.
  • To unite law Students in Nigeria and coordinate their activities at the national level.
  • To increase the knowledge of procedural and substantive law, and acquire and build advocacy skills among Law Students’ in Nigeria through an annual National Debate, Moot and Mock Competitions and such like.
  • To bridge the gap between Law Students’ in Nigeria and Council of Legal Education, Nigerian Bar Association and other relevant bodies.
  • To pursue justice for students in Nigeria in view of the rampant injustice in our society.
  • Promoting legal education through public lectures, seminars and symposia, and the like.
  • Promoting Unity and Patriotism.

LAWSAN has been engaging in value-adding initiatives as we are bent on changing the narratives and transforming lives. LAWSAN is committed to societal excellence, pragmatic development and nation building.

LAWSAN, UNIUYO

LAWSAN, UNIUYO is the chapter of the law students Association of Nigeria here in the University of Uyo. It is the umbrella body of law student in the University of Uyo. It covers the students, lecturers and others, just like its mother body and other chapters in various other Universities which have a law faculty, it shares the purpose vision, goals and fundamental principle of LAWSAN as a whole. Prior to the formation of a unified national body for all Law students(LAWSAN), there existed initial bodies in the university of Uyo created in an attempt to unite all law students on campus namely, LAWSA(Law Students Association) and NALS(National Association of Law Students) and with a defined leadership structure.

WHAT DOES LAWAN, UNIUYO OFFER?

  • The University of Uyo chapter of LAWSAN, just like its mother body, offers its student members the opportunity to build professional connections, networking skills, good communication skills and skill in cooperative team work when working with different individuals from different law faculties of Nigerian universities on a national level. 

    Through history debates and mooting workshop both as inter-chamber and inter-class levels for University of Uyo law students, LAWSAN, Uniuyo avail students the opportunity to go beyond the academic study of law. This same with the hosting of the annual ‘Colour of LAWSAN’ event which affords students the opportunity of showcasing  their extra-legal skills such as public speaking which would help law students excel in the outside would.

    Through various publication, both online and offline. Uniuyo LAWSAN offers information in formation of its students on current development concerning the legal profession in order to keep them equipped and abstract on the daily happening and development in the legal world, as well as the opportunity to be heard nationally.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

• To unite all law students in the various constituencies in University of Uyo chapter
• To give law students in Uniuyo a platform for representation outside the University, amongst other chapters of LAWSAN
• To provide law students the platform to explore and harness needed skills for succeed in the outside would.
• To provide students networking opportunities
• To promote legal education among students
• To promote the general values, goals and objectives of the national LAWSAN body, as the grassroots
