PROGRAMME OFFERED WITH ADMISSION REQUIREMENT
The faculty offers:
- BACHELOR OF LAWS (LL.B)
- MASTER’S DEGREE LL.M IN LAW
- DOCTORATE DEGREE PH.D IN LAW
LAW DEGREE PROGRAMME: DIPLOMA IN LAW (Part Time)
The University has established a School of Continuing Education to complement its efforts in the development of middle and higher level manpower for the nation. The School of Continuing Education offers fulltime/ evening/weekend/part-time academic and professional programmes for workers and others who may not be able to undertake regular full-time studies in the University.
The Objectives of the School of Continuing Education are specifically:
i. To provide access for people to go into professional and academic programmes at the degree level through certificate and Diploma Programmes of the School.
ii. To offer opportunities for full time workers to earn University degrees.
iii. To offer opportunities of professional training for practitioners in the public service and industries.
iv. The School offers opportunities for people to receive effective preparation through extramural studies to take the UTME/GCE/WASCE/NECO and other examinations.
LAW DEGREE PROGRAMME: BACHELOR OF LAWS (LL.B)
As required by the national Universities Commission (NUC), the Faculty offers courses and programmes leading to the degree of Bachelor of Laws (LL.B).
LENGTH OF THE LL.B DEGREE PROGRAMME
The duration is a 5-year standard programme for students with Senior Secondary Certificate (SSCE) or General Certificate in Education (GCE) O’ Level or equivalent.
However, Direct Entry candidates are admitted into year two of the programme, but they may still be required to do some of the year one courses to be able to graduate.
HIGHER DEGREES
The Faculty in Collaboration with the postgraduate School (PG School) also offers Master of Laws (LL.M) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) Programmes in Law.
Admission Requirements:
A candidate for admission into Law Faculty of the University must possess at least
- Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSSC)
- or G.C.E.
- or NECO O’ Level
- With at least credit passes in five (5) subjects, including English Language and Literature in English, obtained at not more than two sittings.
Such a candidate must have an acceptable pass in the Joint Matriculation Examination (JME) and the Aptitude Test organized by the University.
LAW DEGREE PROGRAMME: MASTER’S DEGREE LL.M IN LAW
Admission Requirements:
A candidate for admission into the Master’s programme in Law must have obtained the degree of Bachelor of Laws (LL.B), 2nd Class Honours Lower Division from the University of Uyo, or any other University or Universities with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.75 and may be subjected to oral examination for purpose of admission.
LAW DEGREE PROGRAMME: DOCTORATE DEGREE PH.D IN LAW
Admission Requirements:
A candidate for admission into the Doctoral programme in Law must have obtained the degree of Master of Law (LL.M) from the University of Uyo, or any other University or Universities with a minimum cummulative percentage score of 60 or B grade.
Such candidate may be subjected to oral examination before admission.
